WähringDie Währinger Bezirksgeschichte als Hörbuch: Vor vielen hundert Jahren floss hier, wo sich heute der Nobelbezirk Währing befindet, ein Bachden es längst nicht mehr gibt und dem der alte Ortskern den Namen verdankt. Dieser Kern lag zwischen der heutigen Währingerstraße und der Gentzgasse. 1892 gesellten sich die ehemaligen Vororte Weinhaus, Pötzleinsdorf und Gersthof dazu. Diese Dörfer wurden dann zum 18. Bezirk zusammengefasst. An den ehemaligen Weinort Währing erinnert heutzutage nur noch wenig, längst sind Reben und Heurige hier verschwunden. Nur noch eine einzige Buschenschank existiert - ganz oben in Pötzleinsdorf. Im 19. Jahrhundert trieb es die Wiener traditionell zur Sommerfrische hinaus nach Währing. Schubert etwa ließ sich gerne im Gasthaus »Zum Biersack« nieder, wo er das Lied »Horch die Lerche im Ätherblau« komponierte.
